🔌 Chapter 2

Getting started: setting up the Spendesk MCP tools in Dust

Dust has no skill file to download — MCP tools are enabled by your workspace admin, then reused by any agent. Here's how to get started.

Dust works differently from Claude Code — and it's worth knowing why

If you've read the Claude-side guide, forget the "download a file and drop it in a folder" reflex. Dust has no downloadable-skill mechanism — no CLI, no .claude/ folder. Instead, Dust works with agents — assistants configured in Dust's web interface, reusable by your whole team once published.

Second important difference: you don't install MCP tools yourself. They're added by your Dust workspace admin, once, for the entire organization. Once the Spendesk MCP is connected, any agent can use it.

Step 1 — Check that the Spendesk MCP is already connected

Before anything else, ask your Dust admin: "Is the Spendesk MCP server enabled on our workspace?" This is a one-time action done for the whole team — not something each user configures individually.

Step 2 — Use a skill's content as agent instructions

This site's skills library remains useful even without Dust's download mechanism: each skill's content (the instructions, the MCP tools to call, the step order) is already platform-independent. On any skill's detail page, the "How to install" section adapts automatically once you switch the platform selector to "Dust" — copy those instructions.

Step 3 — Create or use an existing agent

In Dust, open the agent builder and paste the copied instructions as system instructions. If a Spendesk agent already exists in your workspace ("published" by a colleague), you can also just ask it your question directly — nothing to configure.

Where's the Doctolib invoice at?

@DustAPP

I found the Doctolib invoice in the payment cycle.

Doctolib invoice — €2,400.00

Status: Scheduled for payment

Due date: 2026-07-15

No delay detected.

Would you like me to check whether there are other pending Doctolib invoices?

For CFOs and Controllers: if your workspace already has a published finance agent, check with your team before creating a new one — it's better to enrich an existing agent than to end up with duplicates.

Recap of the differences vs. Claude Code

  • Claude Code: you download a .md file, drop it in .claude/, each user repeats the step.
  • Dust: the admin enables the MCP once for everyone; you copy a skill's content into an agent, then share it with the team.

Once the MCP is available, the next step is learning how to phrase your requests well to an agent: Using an agent in a conversation.
